First study visit: Nido E Scuola Montessori "Clara Vigliani Albertini" in Candelo, Italy

On 11th of April 2024 the representative and principals and coordinator of the partnering institutions: Francesca Delkić for the Talijanski dječji vrtić Fregola Buje – Scuola d'infanzia italiana Fregola Buie, Arianna Doz for Dječji vrtić Suncokret Cittanova – Scuola dell'infanzia Girasole Novigrad and Cheyenne Benvegnù for Or.s.a Società Cooperativa Sociale- Nido D’infanzia interaziendale: “I cuccioli della scienza” La Sissa dei piccoli Trieste visited the Nido E Scuola Montessori "Clara Vigliani Albertini" in Candelo (Biella, Italy) as the first of the three preschool institution selected in Italy for the study visits. The institution hosts 56 children and a total of 8 employees at the moment, it is a much different reality, much smaller compared to the one in the partnering organisations.
This institution was chosen for its relevance and the method used for early and preschool education: the method Montessori, which is a type of educational method that involves children's natural interests and activities rather than formal teaching methods. This activity is specifically designed to strengthen international collaboration and cooperation with other kindergartens that integrate innovative and not standard, institutionalized educational methods, which will lead to strengthening and innovating the capacities in the partner’s local institutions. The examples given and experienced may evolve into new ideas, approaches and techniques that can benefit the well-being and education of the children.
The coordinator of the kindergarten: Roberta Raco, introduced the institution, organized a guided tour of the whole structure, and explained how it was renovated, presenting all the rooms and how they are designed to support in the best possible way all daily activities that are carried out. A particular emphasis was given to presenting and explaining the working and educational method used, the relation, communication and collaboration with the parents as well as the daily routine. The partners had the chance to visit the working groups and witness how the educators interacted with the children, how they prepared for activities and the preparation for lunchtime.
Lastly, due to the professional connections of the Italian partner, the representatives of the partnering institutions were able to visit a second kindergarten: Nido del Sole in the Municipality of Pray on the day of the departure. The partners were welcomed by the coordinator Manuela Maruca who introduced and guided them throughout the institution and presented their daily activities. The institution hosts 30 children and 9 employees total and it is another example of a kindergarten that uses the Montessori educational method. During the visit, the partners, were presented the whole institution and its spaces as well as all the daily activities and took part in the daily routine to experience what can be another reality in a different, even if near, environment and location.
