Multiprogramme Coordination Mechanism

McMech - Introduction

Introduction

The Interreg Mediterranean Multiprogramme Coordination Mechanism is a pilot coordination project involving several Interreg programmes in the Mediterranean area on the topic of sustainable tourism, aimed at strengthening their synergies with a twofold objective:

  • improve coordination in the joint monitoring and evaluation of the impact of best practices and innovative solutions tested at the local level, creating a value chain between the projects, thus favouring potential transfer, scaling up and mainstreaming processes;
  • develop reinforced Interreg policy recommendations to increase the overall impact and sustainability of resources invested in territories, by improving the quality of interventions and sharing the richness of existing knowledge related to a specific topic.

Programmes involved

The Mechanism  started  with the initial contribution of three programmes, Interreg Italy-France Maritime, MED/Euro-MED and ENI-MED/Next-MED, which in the previous programming period initiated a two-year experimentation phase in 2022-2023.

As of 2023, our Programme joined the Mechanism as an official member, becoming an active part of it with the aim of contributing to the integration of current and future strategies in the Mediterranean. The Interreg Greece-Cyprus programme also joined the pilot in the same year.
Two other programmes are about to join soon, Interreg Italy-Malta and Italy-Tunisia, while Interreg Adrion and IPA South Adriatic participate as observers.

A total of seven Interreg programmes are thus involved in this pilot, which through a joint approach and a joint action plan aims to enhance the development of the best synergies and the transfer of shared knowledge and common solutions throughout the Mediterranean during the 2021/2027 programming period.
