PP8 Municipality of Fermo Pilot Area

12/08/2026

The pilot area of the Municipality of Fermo, located in the Marche region along the Adriatic coast, encompasses a diverse territory where coastal areas, river corridors, urban settlements, residential zones, and important transport routes converge. This combination of natural and built environments creates a complex territorial context with different levels of exposure to climate-related hazards.

The area is particularly vulnerable to flooding, intense rainfall, and other hydrogeological and meteorological risks. River areas may experience rapid changes in water levels during heavy rainfall, while coastal roads, urban underpasses, and other low-lying areas are susceptible to water accumulation and temporary disruptions to mobility and public services.

Within the municipality, several strategic locations have therefore been selected as part of the DIGITAL PLAN pilot area, including river crossings, coastal access routes, urban underpasses, and other areas considered particularly exposed to flooding and severe weather events. Their selection reflects the need to improve the monitoring of critical locations and strengthen the capacity to detect and respond to hazardous conditions.

Through the integration of environmental monitoring and digital technologies, the DIGITAL PLAN pilot will support early warning, risk assessment, and more effective emergency response, contributing to greater resilience of the Municipality of Fermo and the communities and infrastructure exposed to climate-related risks.
