Before a curtain rises, something has already begun: a meeting, a question, a community gathering around a shared story. This is the way Teatri di Bari looks at theatre, not only as a place for performances, but as a living space where people, territories and ideas come together.

Based in Puglia, Teatri di Bari is a wide cultural network that brings together different places and identities: Teatro Kismet in Bari, Teatro Radar in Monopoli, La Cittadella degli Artisti in Molfetta and the theatre space inside the “N. Fornelli” Juvenile Detention Institute. Each of these venues tells a different story: from experimentation and contemporary languages to community work, from artistic production to education, from urban regeneration to social inclusion.
Recognised by the Italian Ministry of Culture as a Teatro di Rilevante Interesse Culturale, Teatri di Bari has built its path by connecting artistic quality with a strong public mission. In 2023, it also became a Società Benefit, confirming a commitment that goes beyond programming: making culture more accessible, fighting cultural poverty, supporting inclusion and promoting responsible cultural practices.
This approach is what makes Teatri di Bari’s contribution to GOVART particularly valuable. Within the project, the partner brings its experience in theatre production, artistic residencies, training and audience engagement to help transform cultural cooperation into a concrete, shared practice.
In GOVART, Teatri di Bari will play a key role in the implementation of the Italian artistic residency, conceived not as a simple creative moment, but as a real laboratory for cross-border governance.
Artists, cultural operators, public institutions and local stakeholders will be invited to work together, test ideas, face practical challenges and explore how artistic processes can help institutions and communities cooperate in new ways.
For Teatri di Bari, the stage is never isolated from society. It is a place where contemporary issues can be questioned, where young generations can find a voice, and where culture becomes a tool for participation. This vision perfectly matches the spirit of GOVART: building bridges across the Adriatic through creativity, dialogue and shared responsibility.
Through the project, Teatri di Bari will help bring the GOVART model closer to people, turning governance into experience, cooperation into practice, and theatre into a common language for change.
