The BRAVE project continues its communication voyage with the release of our second newsletter: "Resilient Tides: Science, Stories, and Shared Waters." Written from the coastal cliffs of Gargano looking across to our Croatian partners, this second issue highlights the ongoing 36-month cross-border alliance between 13 partners from Italy and Croatia, all dedicated to safeguarding our shared marine ecosystem.
What’s Inside Issue #2?
The Resilient Journey of "Oliver": A deep dive into the survival story of a solitary bottlenose dolphin in the Velebit Channel. We showcase how crowdsourced sightings via the Marine Ranger app, combined with environmental DNA (eDNA) research and cross-border data harmonization, are turning local wildlife encounters into regional conservation policies.
A New Guardian for Vis Island: The official delivery of a dedicated monitoring vessel to the special marine reserve of KomiĹľa. Operated by local conservationists, this mobile command post works alongside strategic surveillance cameras, eco-friendly mooring buoys, and fish population tracking to build a multi-layered defense system.
Connecting Art, Science, and the Sea: A spotlight on the 27th ShorTS International Film Festival in Trieste and its Eco-ShorTS category. We explore how visual storytelling bridges the gap between environmental data and public action, demonstrating that ocean protection goes hand-in-hand with community engagement.
Waves of Progress: Science Doesn't Take a Vacation
As summer brings energy to our coastlines, our field teams remain hard at work. From eDNA genetic sampling to mapping invasive alien species and deploying smart multi-parameter sensors, the data gathered this season will directly feed into our upcoming Smart Digital Platform. By connecting fishers, scientists, and decision-makers, we are building a more resilient, adaptive Adriatic.
