The SWAMrisk project results were presented at the First International Workshop on Building Resilient Transitional Coastal Ecosystems, held on 7–8 July 2026 at the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, within the framework of the RESOLVE project (HORIZON-MSCA-2023-SE-01-01).
Representing PP8 – CNR Institute of Geosciences (GEO), Luigi Tosi and Sandra Donnici presented the SWAMrisk Land–Sea Continuum concept, highlighting the importance of viewing coastal plains, wetlands, lagoons, deltas, estuaries and adjacent marine areas as one interconnected system.
This integrated approach supports a better understanding of groundwater–surface water interactions, sediment dynamics and climate change impacts, providing a stronger scientific basis for sustainable coastal management and climate adaptation.
The workshop brought together researchers from Italy and Thailand to exchange knowledge on coastal resilience, including coastal erosion, land subsidence, ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, integrated water management and Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
The event concluded with a technical field visit to the Chao Phraya Delta, where participants explored Nature-based Solutions for addressing coastal erosion, land subsidence and saltwater intrusion, with particular attention to mangrove restoration and its role in strengthening coastal resilience.
The workshop once again highlighted the importance of international scientific cooperation, knowledge exchange and integrated approaches in building more resilient coastal ecosystems.
