Workshop — Blue Crab (Callinectes sapidus) in the Veneto Region: Current Knowledge and Future Perspectives

09/07/2026

On June 25th, the BlueDiversity Workshop took place at Palazzo Grassi in Chioggia, in partnership with the EU Green Week.

Organized by the Department of Biology of the University of Padova (Prof. Cristiano De Pittà) and Eduforma, the workshop brought together researchers, professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the latest scientific advances on the invasive blue crab (Callinectes sapidus).
The event provided a unique platform to share ongoing projects, monitoring activities, and emerging research, fostering dialogue across disciplines. Discussions ranged from the ecology and management of this invasive species to its nutritional value, commercial opportunities, and potential applications in different sectors, highlighting how scientific research can support innovation and sustainable resource management.

Addressing the challenges posed by invasive species requires more than isolated efforts, it calls for collaboration, shared knowledge, and a common vision. Events like the BlueDiversity workshop are essential for building the partnerships needed to transform scientific knowledge into practical solutions.
