CASTLECHAIN cultural storytelling workshop held in Motovun

06/07/2026

On Thursday, June 25, Motovun tourist board organized the "Cultural Storytelling as a Tool for the Preservation and Contemporary Interpretation of Cultural Heritage" workshop as part of the CASTLECHAIN – Fortified Original Roots for Tourism and Innovation in Sustainable Heritage project, co-funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 Programme, focusing on cultural storytelling as a powerful tool for preserving, interpreting and promoting cultural heritage.

The workshop brought together tourism professionals, cultural stakeholders, local entrepreneurs and members of the local community to explore how authentic stories, legends, traditions and Motovun's rich Venetian heritage can be transformed into engaging visitor experiences and sustainable tourism products.

A special contribution came from CASTLECHAIN's project partner Emanuele Luciani of G.A.L.E.E. Sibilline, who joined the workshop online to present inspiring examples of cultural storytelling and heritage interpretation from the Italian pilot area. His presentation highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation and the exchange of good practices in developing innovative approaches to sustainable cultural tourism.

The workshop was led by Manuela Hrvatin, a certified heritage interpretation trainer (Interpret Europe), and Aleksandar Bančić, storyteller and drama educator, whose expertise and interactive approach inspired participants to discover new ways of bringing heritage to life through stories.

By embracing cultural storytelling, we preserve the identity of our communities and create meaningful experiences that connect visitors with our shared heritage.

The workshop was organised by the Motovun Tourist Board in collaboration with IRTA – Istria Inspirit, whose expertise in heritage interpretation and storytelling enriched the programme with valuable knowledge and practical experience.
