Official launch of “Digging Digital” podcast series with its first episode: The Art of Storytelling in Archaeology

06/07/2026

The ARCHAEODIGIT project is pleased to announce the release of the first episode of its podcast series "Digging Digital: the ARCHAEODIGIT Podcast". Developed within the framework of the project's training and communication activities, the series aims to promote innovative approaches to the valorisation of archaeological heritage by exploring the role of digital skills, communication, and audience engagement.

Designed as an accessible learning resource, the podcast series follows the thematic structure of the ARCHAEODIGIT Joint Training Courses, bringing together experts and practitioners to discuss key topics related to the digital transformation of archaeology and cultural heritage. Through conversations, practical examples, and reflections from project partners, the series offers valuable insights for cultural heritage professionals, tourism operators, researchers, students, public authorities, and anyone interested in making archaeological heritage more accessible and engaging.

Episode 1: The Art of Storytelling in Archaeology

The first episode, "The Art of Storytelling in Archaeology," focuses on one of the most powerful tools for connecting people with cultural heritage: storytelling.

The episode features Anna Cingoli, Project Manager at the Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Chambers of Commerce (Forum AIC), in conversation with Archaeologist Ludovica Xavier de Silva, PhD researcher at the University of Macerata (UniMC). Together, they discuss how storytelling can move beyond the traditional presentation of archaeological sites and artefacts, transforming historical and scientific information into compelling narratives that inspire curiosity, foster emotional connections, and create memorable visitor experiences.

Throughout the discussion, the speakers explore how effective storytelling can help make archaeological heritage more inclusive and accessible to diverse audiences. By combining academic knowledge with engaging communication techniques, heritage professionals can encourage visitors to actively connect with the places they explore, strengthening awareness of the cultural, historical, and social value of archaeological sites.

The conversation also highlights how storytelling can support sustainable cultural tourism, contribute to local development, and complement digital technologies that are increasingly shaping the interpretation and promotion of heritage. Rather than replacing scientific accuracy, storytelling enhances it by presenting archaeological knowledge in ways that resonate with contemporary audiences.

A series dedicated to digital innovation in archaeology

"Digging Digital: the ARCHAEODIGIT Podcast" will consist of 20 episodes, organised into thematic modules reflecting the project's training programme. Future episodes will explore topics such as digital communication strategies, management models of archeological parks, GIS as a tool of archaeological heritage, innovative technologies, audience engagement, sustainable tourism, and other tools that can support the preservation and promotion of archaeological sites across the Adriatic-Ionian area.

The podcast series represents another step in ARCHAEODIGIT's commitment to strengthening the skills of professionals working in archaeology and cultural heritage while fostering knowledge exchange among institutions, researchers, tourism stakeholders, and local communities.

Follow the ARCHAEODIGIT project and stay tuned for the upcoming episodes as we continue exploring innovative ways to connect archaeology, digitalisation, and cultural heritage through expert conversations and practical insights.
