The CYROS project has successfully developed a unified data-sharing model and a dedicated WebGIS portal to support sustainable mobility and planning across the Programme area.
Led by ITL, this initiative addresses the current lack of consistent European standards for cycling data.To ensure seamless integration and visualization within the WebGIS platform, the project established four distinct georeferenced data models using the ESRI Shapefile (SHP) format:
- Cycling Infrastructures (lines)
- Tourist Points of Interest - POIs (points)
- Tourist Areas of Interest - AOIs (polygons for large spatial sites like national park)
- Services for Cyclists (points)
These models function as standard data-sharing frameworks. Project partners align and convert their datasets to match these specifications, enabling interoperability and building upon ongoing European data standardization efforts (such as UNECE and NAPCORE guidelines). The resulting WebGIS portal will serve as a powerful ICT tool for joint monitoring, dialogue, and enhanced route planning for cycling tourists.
