At the beginning of June, the Public Institution Development Agency of Lika-Senj County – LIRA completed a series of educational and participatory activities for children and young people within the CAMPUS – Climate Adaptation Plans for UNESCO Sites project.
The activities included workshops for lower-grade pupils of Dr. Jure Turić Primary School in Gospić, a workshop for secondary school students, a Youth Forum, an exhibition of pupils’ artwork, and an educational trip for pupils of Dr. Jure Turić Primary School to Plitvice Lakes National Park.
Through workshops, games, group work, artistic expression and guided discussions, pupils learned about climate change, environmental protection and the importance of preserving UNESCO heritage. Secondary school students also had the opportunity, through the Youth Forum, to discuss UNESCO initiatives related to climate change and heritage conservation, as well as to share their own views on the role of young people in creating a more sustainable future.
A special part of the activities was the visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park, where pupils had the opportunity to experience first-hand the value of protected natural heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
The CAMPUS project is focused on strengthening the resilience of UNESCO sites to the impacts of climate change and raising awareness among the local community, especially children and young people, about the importance of preserving natural and cultural heritage.
Thank you to all pupils, teachers, educators and partners who took part in these activities!
