SOCRAT Academic Conference 2026: Co-Creating Sustainable Tourism
16/06/2026
How can tourism become more sustainable, authentic, and beneficial for local communities at the same time? This question will be at the heart of the international academic conference SOCRAT Academic Conference “Co-creating Sustainable Tourism”, taking place on 18–19 June 2026 at the University of Zadar, Croatia.
The conference is organised within the framework of the SOCRAT project, funded by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme. It will bring together researchers, practitioners, experts, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and representatives of local communities from across Europe to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange on sustainable, inclusive, and authentic tourism development.
A key focus of the conference is the co-creation of tourism policies, products, and experiences through the active involvement of local communities. Discussions will explore innovative and creative approaches to destination development, the preservation and valorisation of local identity, cultural heritage, and gastronomy, as well as strengthening collaboration among tourism stakeholders.
The programme will feature a keynote lecture by Dr. Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, alongside a dedicated session on professional practices in sustainable tourism. These sessions will provide valuable opportunities for dialogue between academia and the tourism industry, encouraging knowledge transfer and the development of new partnerships.
The conference offers a unique platform for sharing research, exchanging ideas, and jointly shaping future-oriented tourism models that generate value not only for visitors, but also for the local communities that live and shape tourism destinations.
More information about the programme and participation is available on the official conference website.
