Future climate scenarios for the Friuli Venezia Giulia lagoon and sea presented in Palmanova

28/05/2026

A public event dedicated to the presentation of climate change scenarios developed within the project for the lagoon and sea of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region was held on 20 May 2026 at the headquarters of ARPA FVG in Palmanova

The event gathered scientists, researchers, and technical experts from academic and research institutions active in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region to discuss project methodologies, climate modelling tools, and future climate scenarios affecting the regional marine and coastal environment.

The thematic sessions addressed:

  • Hydrological simulations in the Alpe Adria area and methods for estimating river discharge under different climate scenarios

  • Hydrodynamic modelling of the sea and lagoon systems of the region

  • Climate scenarios related to river flows of major regional rivers

  • Impacts of climate change on the thermohaline characteristics of the Gulf of Trieste

  • Responses of the Grado and Marano lagoon systems to future climate changes

  • Accessibility and availability of climate data and scenarios developed within the project

The event provided an important opportunity for scientific exchange and discussion on the future impacts of climate change in the Adriatic region, highlighting the importance of reliable climate data and modelling tools for supporting adaptation planning and coastal resilience.
