Mapping resources and shaping journeys: Four new itineraries take form
26/05/2026
As TOFOLA progresses through its activities, a new milestone has been reached within WP3 with the completion of the resource mapping process, laying the foundation for the development of sustainable tourism products across the project areas.
This work focused on identifying and organising key natural, cultural, gastronomic and community-based resources that define each territory. The mapping highlights what makes these places meaningful for visitors and how they can be experienced in a coherent and accessible way.
From mapping to a structure defining processes
Building on a shared methodology among project partners, this activity ensured consistency in how resources were described, assessed and connected to potential tourism experiences. The result is a structured knowledge base that supports the design of place-based, sustainable itineraries.
Four territories, four journeys
From this common framework, four distinct tourism concepts have been developed, each rooted in the specific identity of its territory.
In Istria, a multi-day route connects inland landscapes to the coast through e-bike experiences, wine and gastronomy, and maritime heritage linked to the Venetian Republic.
In the Po Delta, three day-trip itineraries explore ecosystems, hydraulic landscapes and traditional boat culture, with a strong focus on environmental awareness and sustainable innovation.
From Carnia to the lagoon, a three-day journey follows historic timber routes, linking Alpine forests, the Tagliamento River and the maritime heritage of Marano Lagunare.
In Eastern Veneto, a circular and accessible cycling itinerary connects natural areas and cultural sites, promoting slow tourism and inclusive mobility.
Together, these itineraries show how local resources can be transformed into meaningful tourism experiences, strengthening territorial identity while supporting sustainable development.
