Plastic-free festival “Fishermen and Fishing Complaints”

The Split fish market became the stage for the plastic-free festival “Fishermen and Fishing Complaints,” organized by the Association for Nature, Environment and Sustainable Development Sunce within the project.
The event brought together fishermen, scientists from the Institure of Oceanography & Fisheries, sudents, creatives, and local initiatives to highlight one urgent reality: marine plastic pollution is now part of everyday fishing life, with tons of waste collected from the Adriatic in recent years.
Through STEM education activities, zero-waste cooking by Corto Maltese and Makarun, and circular economy innovations from RZ Friška riba, RZ Adria Tribunj, Provir design, and Maritimo Recycling, the festival showed practical solutions already taking shape.
Art and science installations from BIOPRESSADRIA and ASPEH project further emphasized the fragility of the Adriatic ecosystem.
The message from Split is clear: protecting the sea requires cooperation between tradition, science, and innovation - and change is already underway.
