Night of Fortresses 2026 – Cervia

21/05/2026

On 8 and 9 May 2026, Cervia hosted a new edition of the Night of Fortresses, transforming the historic city centre and the seafront into a widespread itinerary dedicated to history, memory, and fortified heritage, within the framework of the FORTIC project.

The programme included five guided tours and a conference entitled “The Second World War bunkers on the Adriatic Coast: research between conflict archaeology and contemporary archaeology”, held and moderated by researchers from the University of Bologna. Particular attention was dedicated to the bunkers and “dragon’s teeth” located along the coast of Milano Marittima, as well as to Cervia’s Quadrilatero, a truly unique example of urban fortification. The activities, addressed to both adults and families, aimed to enhance the local historical heritage and promote a conscious reflection on the memory of the wartime period.

The event recorded significant participation, involving more than 125 people over the two evenings and confirming the public’s interest in cultural activities focussing the territory’s historical and defensive heritage.

The initiative was organised in collaboration with the CRB 360° Cultural Association, Cervia historian Luca Bagnolini, the theatre company “Nati per caso” composed by local voluntaries, and the cultural association Gruppo Culturale Civiltà Salinara.
