Cross-border cooperation brings communities together, but differing national laws and administrative procedures can sometimes create unexpected bottlenecks. To help local actors overcome these challenges, the European Commission’s DG REGIO and the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) are promoting the b-solutions initiative.
Since 2018, b-solutions has helped solve over 130 cross-border obstacles. Common examples include differing laws regulating public transport on either side of a border, overlapping administrative procedures for medical reimbursements, or diverging rules for the cross-border use of energy.
What support is available?
Selected cases will receive tailored technical assistance from legal and administrative experts who understand the local territory and languages. The expert will analyse the specific bottleneck, engage with the key local players, and propose practical, sustainable solutions to resolve the obstacle.
How to apply
The call for proposals is currently open to public bodies and cross-border entities. To make the process as accessible as possible:
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis (no strict immediate deadline).
- Proposals can be submitted in any official European language.
If an administrative or legal barrier is hindering your cross-border activities, this is a straightforward opportunity to get expert advice.
