At the GLOBAL SEAFOOD Expo 2026 in Barcelona, the largest seafood exhibition in the European Union, the Marche Region presented its work on advancing sustainable practices and cooperation in the Adriatic area. The event, now in its 32nd edition, brought together over 35,000 participants from more than 80 countries, reaffirming its role as a key global meeting point for the seafood and blue economy sectors.
The presentation took place at the institutional stand of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture within the Italian Pavilion, as part of the event “SISTEMA MARCHE: seafood and blue economy”. The session was delivered by Francesca Perretta (Marche Region, Sector for Tourism, European Territorial Cooperation and Development Cooperation, Ancona), who introduced participants, including companies, institutions and the wider public, to ongoing efforts aimed at protecting marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture in the Adriatic Sea.
During the session, the Marche Region emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation between Italy and Croatia, highlighting joint efforts in environmental monitoring, digital innovation and governance. The initiative supports the development of shared tools, knowledge exchange and capacity building, contributing to healthier marine ecosystems and more inclusive approaches to environmental management.
Participation in the Expo provided a valuable platform to engage with international stakeholders, increase visibility and showcase innovative approaches to coastal resilience and blue economy development. It also opened new opportunities for future collaboration and further capitalisation of results at a broader, transnational level.
