Strengthening Cross-Border Exchange: Transnational Placements in Croatia

22/04/2026

The ARCHAEODIGIT project, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Italy–Croatia programme, continues to advance its capacity-building activities through the implementation of transnational placements.

As a core component of the project, top participants from the Training Courses are selected to undertake a 3-week mobility experience in partner test areas across borders. This initiative enables Italian participants to train in Croatian contexts and vice versa, fostering knowledge exchange and practical learning.

Participants from Macerata in Croatia

The current mobility phase involves seven participants from Macerata, Italy, who are undertaking their placement in Croatia. The group includes:

  • Master’s students from the LM-2 programme at the University of Macerata
  • PhD candidates
  • Professionals in the field of cultural heritage

Coming from complementary backgrounds, participants bring with them a combination of theoretical training, research experience, and applied skills in the field of cultural heritage. This multidisciplinary profile allows them to approach the placement activities from multiple perspectives, encouraging critical thinking and collaborative problem-solving.

Throughout the mobility, participants are not only engaging with local institutions and heritage sites, but also actively exchanging methodologies, insights, and best practices with Croatian stakeholders. This interaction contributes to a deeper understanding of how cultural heritage is managed, interpreted, and promoted in different territorial contexts.

Key Activities

During their placement, participants are engaging in a range of site visits and institutional activities, including:

  • A study visit to the Fortress of Klis, focusing on heritage preservation and interpretation
  • Activities at the Ethnographic Museum of Split, exploring museum practices and visitor engagement
  • A visit to Brijuni National Park, examining the integration of natural and cultural heritage within sustainable tourism frameworks

Learning Outcomes

Through these activities, participants are gaining first-hand insight into Croatian heritage management practices while strengthening key competences such as:

  • Intercultural communication
  • Professional language skills
  • Problem-solving and adaptability in real-world contexts

The mobility will be formally recognised through the Europass Mobility framework, contributing to participants’ professional development and future career opportunities.

This transnational experience represents a key milestone in the ARCHAEODIGIT project, reinforcing collaboration and shared learning across the Adriatic-Ionian region.
