On 26 March 2026, within the framework of the Croatian Port Days held from 25 to 28 March in Zara, the roundtable “Cooperation Without Borders – European Ports and EU Projects” brought together key actors to discuss European strategies for the green and digital transition of ports.
During the session, Alberto Cozzi (Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea) presented the PRESPORT project, outlining its integrated approach to the twin transition in Adriatic ports. The intervention highlighted how PRESPORT combines decarbonisation actions – such as planning for shore-side electricity and energy efficiency measures – with advanced digital tools aimed at improving operational management and port security.
Special attention was given to the project’s cross-border strategies, designed to support port authorities in adopting shared models for environmental sustainability and technological innovation, in line with EU priorities.
The discussion was enriched by the contributions of other panelists presenting projects funded under Interreg programmes, including DIGITPORTS and ADRIJOROUTES (Interreg Italy–Croatia), as well as AIMPRESS and CIRASIM (Interreg IPA ADRION). These initiatives contribute, with complementary approaches, to strengthening resilience, security and digitalisation across ports in the Adriatic-Ionian area.
Participation in the Croatian Port Days confirmed the importance of cooperation without borders among European ports, showing how knowledge exchange and project synergies are key drivers to accelerate the transition towards greener, smarter and safer port systems.
