Digitalising the Road Last Mile: European Experts Convene in Trieste

Trieste, 25 March 2026 – The High-Level Cross-Fertilization Event, titled “Digitalising the Road Last Mile for Ports and Multimodal Freight Terminals. Data sharing and interoperability for efficient freight flows”, was successfully held in Trieste, showcasing PRESPORT’s role in advancing digital connectivity in the Adriatic–Ionian region.
The event brought together key local stakeholders, including the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Interporto di Trieste, the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, authorities and operators from several European countries – Germany, Port of Hamburg, the Netherlands, Latvia, Belgium, Ireland, and Italy – as well as cities such as Hamburg and Amsterdam, and leading institutions from the European road and port sectors. The event also saw the participation of EUSAIR representatives, EU Corridor representatives, and two Joint Secretariats of Interreg Italy–Croatia and Interreg Central Europe.
Representatives exchanged knowledge and best practices on improving efficiency, interoperability, and data sharing at strategic logistics nodes, highlighting PRESPORT’s contributions and synergies with complementary initiatives such as ACCESSMILE, MERIDIAN, MILEPORT, and ELODIE.
The event, held in a hybrid format, was a great success, strengthening PRESPORT’s visibility and demonstrating the value of coordinated European efforts in digitalising freight transport systems and enhancing sustainable, smart port and terminal operations.
