5th Onsite Project Meeting Successfully Held in Omišalj, Croatia

On 24-25 March 2026, project partners from Italy and Croatia came together for two days of collaboration, strategy, and cultural exploration, continuing the work toward the finalization and closure of ARCHAEODIGIT – ARCHAEOlogical DIGITal paths for an inclusive and sustainable tourism.

Day 1 – Co-Creation Workshop & Technical Board Meeting

The meeting began with a Co-Creation Workshop, moderated by Prof. Cegolon and hosted by the Municipality of Omišalj, aimed at refining the ARCHAEODIGIT Joint Strategy. Partners discussed capitalization activities, identified next steps, and defined procedures for concluding and signing the strategy. The workshop created a collaborative space where all participants could contribute their expertise and ideas.

In the Technical Board Meeting, partners presented updates on key project activities:

  • Activity 1.2 – Joint Methodology (UMC): final revisions of the common methodology for preserving, interpreting, and valorizing archaeological areas in touristic ecosystems.
  • Activity 1.3 – ARCHAEODIGIT Digital Platform (ETT): brainstorming sessions for further development of the project website and digital tools.
  • Activities 3.3 & 3.4 – Joint Pilot Actions (Test Areas and ETT): updates on Croatian test areas and evaluation tools to optimize pilot actions.
  • Activity 2.2 – Training Courses (UMC): presentation of the training materials and updates on transnational placements.
  • Activity 2.3 – Mentorship Guidelines (UPU): sharing best practices and deliverables for mentoring activities.
  • Activity 2.4 – MOOC (UMC): progress on the development of the ARCHAEODIGIT online courses.

The first day concluded with a social dinner, giving partners the opportunity to connect in an informal setting and celebrate the progress achieved.

Day 2 – Steering Committee & Guided Site Visit

The second day focused on project governance and strategic planning. During the Steering Committee Meeting, partners presented on:

  • Project Communication (Forum AIC): planning the Final Conference, podcasts, info-days, and other communication activities to ensure maximum visibility.
  • Project and Financial Management (MAC): discussing upcoming deliverables, meeting schedules, reporting requirements, and mitigation measures to address challenges such as low participant numbers in transnational placements.
  • Bilateral Consultations: one-on-one discussions with the Lead Partner to address specific questions, align expectations, and ensure smooth progress of all project activities.

The meeting concluded with a guided visit to the Fulfinum-Mirine archaeological site, providing participants with the chance to see the first ARCHAEODIGIT interventions in action, including the newly installed informational totems and site enhancements. 

A Collaborative Step Forward

The 5th Onsite Project Meeting highlighted the strength of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among partners, demonstrating their commitment to inclusive, sustainable, and digitally enhanced tourism in the Adriatic-Ionian region. Special thanks go to the Municipality of Omišalj for hosting the meeting and supporting the project’s activities.

With two days of intensive workshops, presentations, and field experiences, ARCHAEODIGIT continues to advance its mission of connecting archaeology, digital innovation, and sustainable tourism to create meaningful experiences for communities and visitors alike.
