15/07/2025
The Cross-border Digital Historical Archive, Deliverable 1.4.2 of the TOFOLA project, dedicated to promoting the traditional wooden nautical heritage in cross-border territories, has been finalized and published online.
The deliverable was developed by Centro Consorzi (Lead Partner) in collaboration with Legno Servizi FVG, the Istrian Development Agency – IDA Ltd., and the University of Rijeka – Faculty of Maritime Studies, with active contributions from the project’s associated partners.
The collected materials, divided into images and videos, document the cultural heritage related to the construction and restoration of traditional wooden boats, highlighting experiences, artisanal techniques, and local contexts. Specifically, the image section includes:
- Photos from the project “Restoration of Traditional Wooden Boats – Mussin Project”, curated by Centro Consorzi with the support of the Consorzio Progetto Legno Veneto;
- Archival images of the batana from Savudrija, provided by the Association of Sea and Cultural Heritage Enthusiasts “SAVUDRIJA BATANA – BATANA SALVORINA”, with videos produced by Faber Filmmaking;
- Historical materials from the Maritime Museum of Trieste, further enriching the visual narrative of the archive, and Associazione Aldebaran, for their kindness and precious help
The collection of materials followed different methods in the various territories involved, thanks to the active participation of local stakeholders, cultural associations, and institutions. This allowed for the creation of a shared, authentic, and representative archive of the nautical traditions of the cross-border area.
The Cross-border Digital Historical Archive represents an important milestone of the TOFOLA project, contributing to the dissemination of historical and cultural value, the promotion of eco-sustainability, and the enhancement of the local wooden boat-building sector.
