IUAV Renews the Wetland Contract for the Northern Venice Lagoon

On 2 July, 55 public and private organizations will renew the Wetland Contract for the Northern Venice Lagoon, marking the beginning of the implementation phase of an updated 2026–2030 Action Plan. The signing ceremony will take place at Casa del Pesca in Punta Sabbioni (Cavallino-Treporti).

The updated Action Plan is structured around four strategic actions, translated into 36 concrete activities to be implemented between 2026 and 2030. These include integrated water management, resilient agriculture, environmental education, recognition of the rights of the Lagoon, sustainable food systems, and the identification of climate shelters across the lagoon territory.

The revision process, launched in September 2024, involved public meetings, thematic workshops, and negotiation tables with a broad range of local stakeholders from municipalities, public authorities, associations, universities, and civil society organizations.

The signing ceremony represents not the end, but the beginning of a new implementation phase. All Contract documents—including the Action Programme, Strategic Document, Knowledge Document, and Formal Commitment—will be made publicly available. The Contract will also remain open to new signatories, encouraging the continued growth of a community of practice committed to protecting and enhancing the Northern Venice Lagoon.
