Salinization and Drought in Coastal Aquifers: From Monitoring to Sustainable Management
Within the framework of the Interreg Italy–Croatia SWAMRISK project, a mini-conference entitled “Salinization and Drought in Coastal Aquifers: From Monitoring to Sustainable Management” will be held on Thursday, 5 March 2026, at the CNR-IGG Headquarters in Padua. The number of participants is limited. Registration is required and can be completed via the link provided in this announcement or through the registration form available in the event flyer until February 25th.
The event addresses one of the most pressing environmental challenges affecting Mediterranean and coastal regions – the increasing vulnerability of groundwater resources to salinisation and prolonged droughts, driven by climate change, sea level rise, and intensified human pressures. Coastal aquifers play a crucial role in water supply, agriculture, and ecosystem stability, yet they are increasingly exposed to degradation processes that threaten their long-term sustainability.
The event is open to all interested stakeholders, including researchers, water authorities, decision-makers, practitioners, and representatives of local and regional institutions. Participants are invited to actively contribute to the discussion on good practices, lessons learned, and opportunities for scaling up solutions developed within the SWAMrisk project and related initiatives.
Through this exchange, the conference aims to strengthen cooperation, enhance knowledge transfer, and support the development of more resilient and sustainable management of coastal groundwater resources in the face of ongoing climate challenges.
