Finding a new balance for our seas: the power of sustainable pescatourism

On a global scale, 33% of fish stocks are overexploited and 59% are fished at their maximum reproductive capacity. Our seas are facing unprecedented pressure, which directly threatens the well-being of coastal communities and the survival of traditional artisanal fishing. There is a way to reverse this course by finding a new balance.
This model brings a threefold benefit. From an environmental perspective, fishing effort is naturally reduced because welcoming tourists on board means using fewer nets, giving fish species time to regenerate. Economically, the activity guarantees fishers an alternative and stable income, reducing their financial dependence solely on catches. Finally, the socio-cultural benefit is extraordinary, as it transforms fishers into true guardians of the environment who can pass down centuries-old maritime traditions to visitors.
This is exactly what we are building with the pestour project: a structured path to turn these principles into a concrete reality for the coastal communities of the Adriatic.
