Proof of Culture exhibition: First step towards authenticated cultural heritage through blockchain

29/07/2026

From 1 July to 31 August 2026, visitors to the medieval Fortress of Acquaviva Picena are invited to experience the Proof of Culture exhibition, organised by project parner G.A.L.E.E. Sibilline within the framework of the CASTLECHAIN – Fortified Original Roots for Tourism and Innovation in Sustainable Heritage project.

The exhibition represents the first public milestone in the creation of the innovative Proof of Culture blockchain system, the flagship innovation of the CASTLECHAIN project. Conceived and developed by Emanuele Luciani, representative of G.A.L.E.E. Sibilline, the concept introduces a new approach to creating, authenticating and promoting cultural heritage through the integration of artistic expression, local identity and blockchain technology.

Curated by Emanuele Luciani together with Diletta Catà, Anastasia Nicu and Matteo Salpini, the exhibition combines artistic and photographic works with the project's innovative vision, inviting visitors to reflect on the relationship between cultural heritage, local communities and digital innovation.

Rather than presenting a finished product, the exhibition marks the beginning of a collaborative process through which project partners from Italy and Croatia jointly develope the Proof of Culture methodology and blockchain ecosystem. The works presented in the exhibition serve as the first examples of how authentic cultural content can be created and interpreted before becoming part of a future system designed to certify its authenticity, origin and connection to place.

The exhibition features a diverse collection of artistic and interpretative works inspired by the cultural identity of fortified medieval towns and their surrounding landscapes. By reinterpreting historical symbols, traditions, local stories and cultural values through contemporary artistic approaches, the exhibition demonstrates how creativity can become a powerful tool for preserving heritage while making it more accessible, engaging and relevant for present and future generations.

The Proof of Culture concept aims to create a trusted blockchain environment where authentic cultural content—including stories, artworks, traditions, local knowledge and cultural experiences—can be securely authenticated, documented and connected to specific heritage sites. Through this innovative approach, CASTLECHAIN seeks to develop new opportunities for sustainable cultural tourism, particularly for fortified medieval towns and other valuable heritage locations that remain less visible within mainstream tourism, strengthening their visibility while preserving their authenticity and identity.

As the creator of the Proof of Culture concept, Emanuele Luciani and G.A.L.E.E. Sibilline are leading one of the project's most innovative actions, combining culture, creativity and digital technologies into a transferable model for the Italy–Croatia cross-border area. The exhibition therefore represents the first step towards the creation of authenticated cultural content and the future implementation of the Proof of Culture blockchain system, laying the foundations for a new generation of authentic, trustworthy and sustainable cultural experiences.

The exhibition is open to the public with free admission and can be visited daily from 1 July until 31 August 2026, during the opening hours of the Fortress of Acquaviva Picena. During the recent CASTLECHAIN Cross-Border Partners' Meeting held in Acquaviva Picena, the exhibition was visited by project partners and local stakeholders from Motovun-Montona, who explored the concept presented by Emanuele Luciani and exchanged views on its future development within the project. The visit confirmed the shared commitment of the partnership to co-create an innovative system for authenticated cultural heritage that will connect local identity, digital innovation and sustainable tourism.
