Cervia Eco-Marathon of the Salt | Results

Emilia Romagna Region together with Cervia Municipality for the zero waste blue sport event

 

Eco-Marathon of the Salt 2019 is Zero Waste Blue because it managed to achieve overall sustainability above 40%.

During the event, the following sustainable solutions have been adopted:

  • use of mains water for refreshment;

  • distribution of local products in the race pack;

  • promotion of the territory with guided visits to the naturalistic areas and to the museums offered as competition prizes;

  • use of compostable, long-lasting, biodegradable or recycled material;

  • online registration;
  • use of eco-compatible bibs;
  • collection stations for recycling;
  • training course for the reception of people with disabilities.

Results achieved

The results show the event has improved in the environmental and socio-cultural sections. Total sustainability after the event was 81,77%, and the total CO₂ emissions savings was 22.907,46 KgCO₂eq.

2-day event

The event started on April 6th with the Kids Run.
The run “Eco-Marathon of the Salt” took place on April 7th with three different routes: 42 Km, 21 Km and 11 Km non-competitive race.

Number of Participants: Almost 4.000 participants took part in the events (runners, families, friends, volunteers involved in the organization).

Stakeholders involved:

  • general public;
  • volunteers;
  • local and regional institutions (Cervia Municipality and Emilia-Romagna region);
  • local and regional tourism organizations (Cerviaturismo and APT – Emilia-Romagna Tourism Board);
  • enterprises and Associations (Sportur Travel, Cervia Sport, UISP, ENDAS).

Emilia-Romagna Region organized 2 working group meetings with the stakeholders in order to sign the Memorandum of Understanding, which you can find at the following link.

In addition, Emilia-Romagna Region defined in this document the regional guidelines for sustainable sporting events which state the main environmental, economic, ethic and social options and alternatives to be considered for the sport event organisation.
