Cross-Border Exchange of Good Practices on Climate Change Adaptation

08/02/2026

A cross-border workshop held under Activity A1.5 gathered academics and practitioners to exchange good practices and applied knowledge on climate change adaptation, with a particular focus on spatial planning and territorial management.

The exchange highlighted practical adaptation measures, research approaches, and planning tools that support climate resilience in coastal and urban areas across the Adriatic and the wider European context.

Assoc. Prof. Maurizio Francesco Errigo (Sapienza University of Rome) presented climate adaptation practices from European cities, focusing on the Mediterranean waterscape and the Capodimonte (Lazio) case study. Assoc. Prof. Tiziana Campisi (University of Enna “Kore”) addressed adaptive passenger and freight transport planning in island and climate-exposed environments.

Researchers from the University of Camerino discussed green and circular transition as key components of multi-hazard resilience, as well as integrated responses to urban heat islands and flooding. Dr. Ljubica Duškov (University of Belgrade) presented Serbia’s legal and policy framework for climate adaptation in spatial planning.

Researchers from the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Civil Engineering, presented methodologies for pluvial flood hazard and exposure assessment, spatial transformation analysis, and coastal erosion vulnerability, providing a technical basis for climate-resilient urban and coastal planning.

The workshop confirmed the value of cross-border knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary cooperation, supporting the development of strategic guidelines, spatial databases, and climate adaptation plans, while strengthening cooperation between Croatian and Italian partners and enhancing resilience in Adriatic coastal communities.
