SITE's Hackathon: Inclusive Tourism for Everyone is almost there!
📆 26–27 November 2025 | Urban Center, Trieste
We’re just days away from the SITE Hackathon - Inclusive Tourism for Everyone, an exciting international event bringing together creative minds from Italy, Croatia and Slovenia to co-design inclusive solutions for accessible tourism. Organising a cross-border hackathon of this scale is an awsome achievement for the SITE project, highlighting the shared commitment to designing tourism that is truly for all.
🌍 A Cross-Border Challenge on Inclusive Tourism
The Hackathon is organised by the University of Trieste in the framework of the SITE project (Shaping Inclusive Tourist Experiences), co-funded by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme 2021–2027, with the essential support of Startup Turismo, the Municipality of Trieste, CRIBA FVG and PromoTurismo FVG, and with the patronage of INU – National Institute of Urban Planning.
During the two-day event, selected participants will co-create digital and non-digital solutions responding to accessibility challenges. Using Universal Design principles as a foundation, they will explore inclusive approaches to technology, physical environments, and communication.
🎯 Thematic Focus
The hackathon challenges cover key aspects of inclusive tourism. Participants will design solutions to improve physical accessibility through urban and architectural interventions, enhance digital and technological tools for seamless travel, and develop communication strategies that ensure clarity and inclusion — including the use of plain language and sign language. They will also create tourism experiences that respond to diverse needs, such as cultural and nature-based itineraries, while embedding values of sustainability and social innovation.
🏆 Prizes
The prizes for the hackathon winners are funded by Startup Turismo.
1st Prize: €4,000
2nd Prize: €2,000
3rd Prize: €1,000
In addition, participants will benefit from dedicated mentorship with SITE partners, receive an official Certificate of Participation endorsed by the Interreg Programme, and be invited to attend the final international SITE conference in Opatija, Croatia.
