Project specific objectives

The specific objective of the SITE project is to enhance the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, social inclusion, and social innovation.

The project aims to diversify tourist flows by promoting a more inclusive tourism ecosystem through the cross-border dissemination of Universal Design (UD) principles in the tourism sector, thereby fostering year-round tourism and making destinations more accessible and welcoming to people with disabilities, families, and the elderly.

Project main outputs

The main outputs of the SITE project include the development and implementation of four pilot actions that deliver inclusive and innovative solutions, training activities, and the creation of tools such as a catalog of UD theories and practices, handbooks, and assessment instruments.

These outputs aim to improve multi-level accessibility in communication, wayfinding, and public spaces, providing useful methodologies and strategies that can be applied to other tourist destinations within and beyond the program area.

About section

About

The SITE project addresses the challenge of diversifying tourist flows by promoting inclusive tourism ecosystems.and Universal Design (UD) principles. This involves leveraging ICT to reduce architectural, sensory, and communicative barriers, ensuring destinations are welcoming to all, including families, elderly, and those with disabilities.

The project engages stakeholders across tourism sectors, higher education, research organizations, and NGOs to foster a UD culture through training, cross-border visits, and the development of practical tools like handbooks and assessment instruments. Pilot actions will demonstrate innovative, inclusive solutions, providing valuable insights for enhancing accessibility in tourist destinations across Europe.

SITE's approach centers on creating universally accessible environments that accommodate diverse abilities, guided by participatory research, workshops, and strategic collaborations. By focusing on pre-travel information, navigation at destinations, and enjoyment of public spaces, the project aims to set a new standard for inclusive tourism experiences, promoting social inclusion and economic growth.
