Study on Movie Tourism in Italy and Croatia

Discover how cinema can transform places into unforgettable travel destinations.

This study explores the growing phenomenon of movie tourism and its impact on local economies, cultural identity, and destination branding across the Adriatic area. Through case studies, best practices, and strategic insights, the document highlights how films and audiovisual productions can inspire travel experiences, promote lesser-known territories, and create new opportunities for sustainable tourism development. The study also examines the challenges linked to overtourism and sustainability, while proposing innovative approaches to strengthen cooperation between the tourism and audiovisual sectors in Italy and Croatia.

Cross-border training activities for youth and aspiring professionals of the audiovisual sector

Within the framework of the project, particular attention was given to young people and aspiring professionals in the audiovisual sector, with the aim of supporting the development and strengthening of their skills in this field.

Through the cross-border activities implemented in Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, REEL offered young participants and professionals the opportunity to benefit from training sessions delivered by experts, fostering knowledge transfer, practical learning and professional growth.

The attached reports provide an overview of these activities, which promoted intercultural exchange, collaboration and the creation of new professional connections, contributing to the development of a cross-border network of young creatives.

The successful design and implementation of distinct cross-border educational activities, aimed at strengthening skills, fostering cooperation and supporting professional development in the audiovisual sector, led to the achievement of project Output O.3.1.

Movie tour pilot apps

Turning Italy and Croatia into an open-air film set, the movie tour pilot apps guide visitors through iconic and lesser-known locations seen through the lens of cinema. By combining storytelling, digital tools and sustainable tourism, the apps invite travellers - especially young audiences - to explore cultural and natural heritage in a more immersive, accessible and emotional way: from screen to real life.
