About section
About
REEL tackles the challenge of diversifying and reorienting tourist flows in Italy and Croatia by using the potential of film-induced tourism. This sector capitalises on the atractions of locations featured in movies and TV series, which resonate strongly with younger audiences. The project aims to introduce innovative and sustainable tourism offerings that showcase the rich cultural and natural assets of the regions, thereby maximising synergies between the audiovisual and tourism sectors.
Key initiatives under REEL include the development of themed movie tours and mobile apps, collaborative productions of short films by emerging directors in project areas, and specialised training modules targeting youth involvement in film tourism. These activities are designed to foster collaboration among stakeholders at various levels, fostering new creative productions and investing in the development of local human capital.
Given the transnational nature of the audiovisual industry, collaboration across borders is essential to fully leverage the potential of the entire Programme area. By adopting a cross-border approach, REEL facilitates the exchange of best practices, knowledge, and resources, which is crucial for efficient and coordinated sectoral development and the promotion of film tourism.
The REEL project integrates technology and digital solutions to provide visitors with interactive and immersive experiences of the cultural and natural heritage sites throughout the program area. This approach not only enhances visitor engagement but also contributes to the sustainable development of tourism by showcasing unique local identities through the lens of film-induced tourism.
