Partner Spotlight | City of Ploče: where local governance meets Adriatic cultural cooperation

10/09/2026

Ploče is a city where the Adriatic landscape, the Neretva Valley and local community life come together. Its cultural identity is not built only around major institutions, but also through public spaces, local traditions, schools, associations, libraries and community events that make culture part of everyday life.

As a partner of GOVART, the City of Ploče brings the voice of local public governance into the project. Its role is essential because cultural cooperation does not happen only on stage: it also needs municipalities, public services, local networks and institutions capable of turning ideas into shared action.

The City’s institutional ecosystem includes public bodies such as the Pučko otvoreno učilište and the Ploče Public Library, which are part of the local cultural and educational infrastructure and contribute to community participation.

Within GOVART, the City of Ploče will help connect the project with real territorial needs. It will contribute to stakeholder engagement, governance analysis and the development of the project’s Toolkit, ensuring that the proposed solutions are useful not only for large cultural organisations, but also for municipalities and local communities. The City will also host the final conference, where the project results, the Governance Toolkit and the Memorandum of Understanding will be presented and shared.

Through GOVART, Ploče becomes more than a project location: it becomes a meeting point where cultural actors, public authorities and citizens can imagine new forms of cooperation across the Adriatic.

Its contribution reminds us that cross-border governance starts from territories: from the ability of local communities to work together, share knowledge and transform culture into a lasting tool for dialogue, participation and development.
