Update! Workshop on Universal Design and to Sustainable Tourism

28/03/2025

On 21st February we organised an online workshop on Universal Design applied to Sustainable Tourism, thanks to the SITE Standard Project partners. The workshop was addressed mainly to Programme beneficiaries working on Priority 4, Culture and tourism for sustainable development and counted over 70 engaged participants.

It was an intense and informative meeting, that aimed to explain the concept of Universal Design and how this approach can be used to improve sustainable tourism offers.

During the first part of the workshop, speakers introduced the seven principles of Universal Design, then focused on market research about the potential of Universal Design and on the importance of developing and branding of accessible and inclusive tourism offers. The second part of the workshop was dedicated to case studies, especially “Essential accessibility information about Travel Chains for everyone” and “Mountain natural environments and sustainable accessibility: the Ski-Ability Project”.

This workshop proved to be a great opportunity to share knowledge and foster capacity building among projects working on sustainable tourism. As the Head of MA, Ms Silvia Comiati, highlighted – it showed what “synergies” are in practice.
