Capacity Building Session Held for Maiella Pilot Municipalities
On 30 July 2026, Maiella National Park (PP3) held a capacity building intervention (A2.4) within the DIGITAL PLAN project at the Abbazia di Santo Spirito al Morrone in Sulmona. The session brought together representatives of the three pilot municipalities — Lama dei Peligni, Caramanico Terme and Pratola Peligna — as well as technical and scientific staff of the Park and the project’s civil protection expert.
The intervention was aimed at both technical staff and elected representatives involved in civil protection planning and emergency management. Its main objective was to strengthen participants’ understanding of the DIGITAL PLAN methodology for the digitalisation of Civil Protection Plans and to provide practical knowledge on the use of the project platform.
During the session, participants were introduced to the digitalisation process, the structure of the platform and its main functionalities, including the consultation and management of digitalised Civil Protection Plans, cartographic tools, and the configuration of monitoring thresholds and alarm notifications.
Particular attention was given to the wildfire and avalanche risks identified for the Maiella pilot area and to how environmental monitoring data can support civil protection planning and emergency management.
The training was followed by the project’s pilot deployment exercise, allowing participants to apply the knowledge gained during the session in a practical setting. This approach helped connect the training with the actual responsibilities of local authorities and supported a better understanding of how digital tools can be incorporated into existing civil protection procedures.
The intervention contributed to strengthening local capacities and supporting the future adoption and use of digitalised Civil Protection Plans across the Maiella pilot area.
