AcquaGuard presented at webinar on Nature-based Solutions and climate adaptation
04/06/2026
The AcquaGuard project took part in the webinar “Nature-based Solutions and climate change adaptation in urban and peri-urban areas – examples of good practice”, organised by WWF Adria within the RESTORIVER project on 2 June 2026.
The webinar brought together examples of Nature-based Solutions from Croatia and other European contexts, focusing on their role in climate change adaptation, flood prevention, water retention and the improvement of resilience in urban and peri-urban areas.
AcquaGuard was presented during the session dedicated to Nature-based Solutions for flood prevention. The project was first introduced by the Lead Partner, the Public Institution Regional Development Agency of Karlovac County, highlighting AcquaGuard’s main objectives, partnership and activities aimed at supporting the systematic planning and implementation of Nature-based Solutions in the Italy-Croatia programme area.
Following the project introduction, Ivan Buljan from REGEA – North-West Croatia Regional Energy and Climate Agency delivered a presentation on the prioritisation of Nature-based Solution measures. His presentation addressed the key question of how to select the most suitable measures for reducing flood risks, taking into account technical, environmental, social, regulatory and financial aspects.
The AcquaGuard approach presented during the webinar emphasised the importance of moving from reactive flood risk management towards anticipatory and integrated planning. Special attention was given to prioritisation strategies as practical tools that can support decision-makers in selecting, preparing and implementing the most appropriate Nature-based Solutions for specific local and regional contexts.
