Project specific objectives
- The project will contribute to the promotion of climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account ecosystem-based approaches.
- The AcquaGuard project aims to address these problems and support two regions, one in Croatia and one in Italy, in establishing and developing a systematic approach to dealing primarily with floods and the damage they cause.
- To support local governance in first steps of NBS implementation for flood prevention, ones related to risk assessment and initial solutions catalogues.

AcquaGuard addresses the urgent need for effective climate change adaptation and resilience strategies, especially in regions vulnerable to flooding in Croatia and Italy. It aims to develop a systemic approach to combat flooding and its impacts by leveraging nature-based solutions and strategic planning. Through cross-border cooperation, the project will assess climate risks, prioritize mitigation actions, and build capacity among local governments. By integrating nature-based solutions and strategic planning, AcquaGuard seeks to provide long-term resilience and sustainable flood management while promoting biodiversity and climate mitigation.

AcquaGuard presented at webinar on Nature-based Solutions and climate adaptation
The webinar focused on Nature-based Solutions for flood prevention and climate adaptation in urban and peri-urban areas. After the project introduction by the Lead Partner, Ivan Buljan from REGEA presented strategies for prioritising the most suitable NbS measures.

AcquaGuard at Youth4Sea in Ancona: contributing to the future of Italy-Croatia cooperation
Youth4Sea brought together young people, project beneficiaries and institutional representatives to discuss youth engagement and the future of Italy-Croatia cooperation. Fabio Favilli from CMCC contributed to the “Young Voices” session, presenting the project experience and its participatory approach.

AcquaGuard Stakeholder Event in Venice: working together towards more climate-resilient communities
Experts, stakeholders and institutional representatives from Italy and Croatia exchanged knowledge on Nature-based Solutions, flood prevention and climate resilience. Through interactive discussions and a World Café workshop, participants contributed to the development of Knowledge Capsules.

The meeting focused on the progress of activities within Period 5, with particular emphasis on the development of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) for flood prevention, alignment of key deliverables, and preparation of upcoming outputs. Discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring consistency across feasibility studies, project documentation, and strategic integration of NbS into planning frameworks.
