Different waves at Ogni altro suono festival
“Different Waves,” an evocative performance by the Ground-to-Sea Sound Collective, will be presented in Piazza dell’Immacolata in Gagliano del Capo (LE) as part of Ogni Altro Suono Festival.
The event is promoted by Fondazione Cetacea, communication manager of Interreg Italy–Croatia project UNDERSEA (2024–2026), in collaboration with Ramdom APS and Ogni Altro Suono.
Created to raise awareness about the growing issue of underwater noise pollution, “Different Waves” transforms real soundscapes of the Adriatic Sea into a compelling artistic experience. The performance is built on underwater recordings captured through specialized hydrophones at selected locations along the Italian and Croatian coasts. These sounds—both natural and human-generated—are reassembled into an original musical composition by Fabio Mina and Emiliano Battistini, with the participation of Adolfo La Volpe.
During the performance, musicians interact dynamically with this aquatic composition, improvising in response to the evolving soundscape. The auditory experience is accompanied by a visual installation by visual artist Mattia Fornaciari (NoRoof), which translates sound waves into real-time geometric patterns projected onto a water surface, creating a powerful multisensory dialogue between sound and image.
Born from a virtuous collaboration between scientists and artists, “Different Waves” goes beyond traditional science communication. It represents an innovative approach to knowledge creation, blending disciplines to foster deeper awareness of the complexity of our changing world and the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems
