Noise Cleanup: Boaters as allies against underwater noise pollution
Underwater noise pollution is one of the least visible yet most impactful pressures on marine ecosystems, with direct effects on marine fauna and particularly on cetaceans.
The conference “Noise Cleanup: Boaters as allies of the Interreg UNDERSEA project against underwater noise pollution” presents the European UNDERSEA project and its innovative approach based on citizen science and the active involvement of recreational boaters.
During the event, Iole Leonori from CNR IRBIM will outline the scientific framework of the project, explaining what underwater noise is, its main sources, and how participatory data collection can contribute to improved knowledge and management of this phenomenon. Greta Dimartino will focus on the role of boaters and coastal communities, showing how the UNDERSEA app enables people at sea to become actively involved in protecting the marine environment.
The session will be moderated by Alice Pari from Fondazione Cetacea.
An opportunity to discover how technology, research, and a shared passion for the sea can join forces to reduce the impact of noise and protect Adriatic marine biodiversity.
