New Acoustic Monitoring Deployment – Southern Koločep (Dubrovnik)
27/07/2025
As part of the ongoing activities within the UNDERSEA project, underwater acoustic recorder was recovered from the position east of Koločep Island in mid-June 2025 and subsequently deployed south of Koločep Island, in the Dubrovnik area. This location was selected due to its high seasonal vessel density, particularly from touristic boat traffic during the summer months. The work was done by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries of Split, in collaboration with the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas of Dubrovnik-Neretva County.
The new deployment will provide critical data on anthropogenic noise levels in this part of the Adriatic Sea, contributing to a broader understanding of spatial and temporal patterns of underwater noise pollution.
Data collected will support future assessments of noise impacts on marine biodiversity and inform mitigation strategies in high-pressure coastal zones.
