AGU Annual Meeting 2025, New Orleans

The SWAMrisk project will be presented at AGU 2025 through two scientific poster
contributions by researchers from UNIST-FGAG (University of Split - Faculty of Civil
Engineering, Geodesy and Architecture).

The first poster, titled “Revealing the seawater–freshwater interface dynamics from estuary water
column temperature observations” (I. Aljinović, V. Srzić, J. Čarija, M. Milin), is focused on
innovative approaches to understanding the dynamics of the seawater–freshwater interface
in estuarine environments using temperature-based observations. The research contributes
to improved monitoring and interpretation of saltwater intrusion processes, which are
critical for managing coastal aquifers and agricultural sustainability.

The second poster, titled “Observation-based analytical framework for the Neretva estuary salt
wedge upper layer salinization risk assessment” (J. Čarija, V. Srzić, I. Aljinović), present a novel
analytical framework for assessing salinization risks in the upper layers of the Neretva
estuary. The study provides valuable insights into the mechanisms driving salt wedge
dynamics and their potential impacts on freshwater resources and agricultural land in the
Neretva Delta.
