Science Communication at the “Acqua e Cibo” Event

16/02/2026

SWAMrisk was presented at the “Acqua e Cibo” event, with our team member, researcher from CNR-IGG, Pablo Agustin Yaciuk, taking part in the discussion and showcasing the project’s work on monitoring and managing groundwater in coastal areas.

The event brought together researchers, practitioners, and stakeholders to discuss the strong interconnection between water resources, food systems, and environmental sustainability. A particular focus was placed on one of today’s key challenges: improving the communication of scientific results to the general public. Making research more accessible and understandable is essential to ensure that scientific knowledge can be effectively used, transferred into practice, and capitalised on, from policy and decision-making processes to real-world water management and climate resilience strategies.

During the event, SWAMrisk was presented as an example of how applied research can support better understanding and management of complex phenomena such as saltwater intrusion and groundwater salinization in coastal areas. The discussion highlighted the importance of clear communication, visual tools, and practical demonstrations in bridging the gap between science and society.

Events like “Acqua e Cibo” represent a valuable opportunity to connect research, policy, and the wider public, and to transform data and innovation into real impact. Participation in such initiatives helps ensure that the results of projects like SWAMrisk do not remain only within the scientific community, but contribute to more informed decisions, more resilient water management practices, and greater awareness of climate-related challenges.
