Final Event: Shaping the Future of Multimodal Mobility in the Adriatic
The SUMMA project is approaching its final stage. On 16 and 17 September 2026, project partners from Italy and Croatia will gather in Caorle, Italy, for the Final Steering Committee and Final Project Event, hosted by the Municipality of Caorle, Lead Partner of the project.
Under the theme “Intermodal mobility for the Adriatic: from the cross-border strategy to the territories”, the two-day event will provide an opportunity to present and discuss the results achieved through cross-border cooperation and their contribution to more sustainable, connected and accessible mobility in the Adriatic coastal and hinterland areas.
The programme will begin on Wednesday, 16 September, with a press conference open to the media and the general public. The session will introduce the SUMMA project, its objectives and partnership, and provide an overview of the cross-border strategy and pilot actions implemented across the participating territories. A particular focus of the first day will be placed on the solutions developed in Caorle, including the new cycle-pedestrian path along the Orologio Canal and its role in strengthening local intermodal connections. The first day will continue with the final Steering Committee meeting dedicated to project implementation, results, financial closure and the durability and capitalisation of SUMMA achievements.
The Final Project Event on Thursday, 17 September, at Museo del Mare will be open to stakeholders and the general public. Representatives of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Croatia Programme and the SUMMA partnership will present the wider Programme context, the project’s journey and achievements, as well as the main results of its two thematic work packages.
A central part of the event will be dedicated to the solutions developed within SUMMA. These include the cross-border Strategy for Intermodal Mobility Solutions, policy recommendations, the platform for aggregation and optimisation of transport data, the study and legal framework for a Single Ticket System, and six territorial pilot actions implemented across Italy and Croatia.
The pilot results to be presented include the cycle-pedestrian path in Caorle; multimodal interchange hubs, a sustainable mobility masterplan and cycloservices map in the Friulian Riviera; a study for a traffic-optimised public transport network in Labin; a sustainable mobility service with e-minibuses in Poreč-Parenzo; a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis for connecting Resnik Port and Split Airport; and new cycling routes in Zadar with a connection to the island of Preko.
The programme will also feature a stakeholder focus group supporting the development of the SUMMA Intermodal Mobility Framework. Building on the evidence and lessons gathered throughout the project, participants will discuss the relevance and feasibility of the proposed strategic directions and the conditions needed for their future implementation.
By bringing together the strategic and practical results developed across the participating territories, the final event will highlight how cross-border cooperation can support the transition towards more sustainable and integrated mobility systems, strengthening connections between ports, airports, railways, urban areas and their hinterlands.
The event will conclude with a discussion on next steps and opportunities to ensure the durability, transferability and capitalisation of SUMMA results beyond the project lifetime.
The Final Project Event will take place on 17 September 2026 at Museo del Mare in Caorle and is open to stakeholders and the general public. Working languages will be English and Italian.
