European Mobility Week in Zadar: Promoting Sustainable Urban Transport Across the Adriatic
24/09/2025
Each September, cities across Europe join forces to promote cleaner, smarter and more sustainable ways of moving around. This year, the City of Zadar proudly participated in European Mobility Week, the EU’s flagship campaign on sustainable urban mobility, celebrated from 16–22 September.
Under the slogan "Mix and Move!", Zadar organized a series of activities designed to encourage citizens to choose walking, cycling and public transport over private cars. The city transformed key urban spaces into pedestrian-friendly zones, hosted free bicycle repair workshops, and introduced guided cycling tours highlighting Zadar’s unique historical and cultural landmarks.
One of the highlights of the week was Car-Free Day, when Zadar’s main streets were closed to motorized traffic, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to reclaim public space. The event fostered a festive atmosphere, featuring music, educational workshops for children and presentations on sustainable mobility solutions.
These initiatives are closely aligned with the goals of the Interreg Italy–Croatia CBC Programme, which promotes cross-border cooperation to improve accessibility, reduce carbon emissions and enhance the quality of life for communities along the Adriatic. Zadar’s commitment to sustainable mobility demonstrates how local actions can contribute to shared European objectives of greener, safer and more inclusive cities.
By raising awareness and engaging citizens, the European Mobility Week in Zadar is a concrete step towards building a more connected and sustainable Adriatic region.
