Kvarner Aims for Stronger Integration of Culture, Creative Industries, and Tourism: SOCRAT Project Action Plan Presented

How to connect culture, creativity, and tourism into a sustainable and authentic regional product was the main topic of the working table organized by the Kvarner Region Tourist Board as part of the SOCRAT – Socializing Craft & Contemporary Art for Sustainable Tourism project.

Cross-sectoral cooperation was highlighted as a key prerequisite for developing modern tourism. This approach focuses on products and experiences rooted in the identity of the destination, the local community, and the contemporary creative sector.

During the event, the Regional Action Plan for Kvarner was presented. This document provides strategic guidelines for strengthening cooperation among the cultural and creative sectors, civil society organizations, and tourism stakeholders. The goal is to create sustainable cultural tourism products that serve as an integral part of the destination's identity, rather than just an additional feature of the tourism offer.

The document is based on:

Mapping of the current situation
Interviews and participatory activities conducted throughout the project
It is closely aligned with the six strategic pillars of the SOCRAT strategy, which range from the development of interdisciplinary innovation hubs and sustainable financing models to capacity building, governance improvement, and tourism development based on authentic community values.

Following the introductory presentation of the project and key regional findings, participants worked in smaller groups to analyze the proposed activities and measures. They assessed their feasibility and discussed which stakeholders are essential for the successful implementation of the plan.

Special focus was placed on concrete proposals and opportunities for further activity development - from prioritizing implementation to identifying potential risks and mitigation strategies.
