Inclusive Tourism in Practice: Join the SITE Training in Trieste
On 23 March 2026, Trieste will host a new opportunity to reflect on the future of tourism through the lens of inclusion, accessibility and sustainability. Our project is organising a one-day training at the San Giovanni Campus of the University of Trieste, bringing together experts, public authorities, tourism professionals and stakeholders interested in building destinations that are truly welcoming for all.
The training promotes a more inclusive tourism ecosystem through the principles of Universal Design. The idea is that tourism should be planned and experienced in ways that respond to diverse needs, reducing physical, sensory and communication barriers and improving the quality of the visitor experience for everyone.
Why is this conversation becoming so important? Because tourism is changing.
Ageing populations, travellers with disabilities, families with children and people facing temporary or situational limitations are reshaping expectations across the sector. In this context, inclusion is no longer an optional added value: it is a strategic direction for destinations that want to remain attractive, competitive and socially responsible.
The training will offer participants the chance to explore how Universal Design can be translated into practical solutions for tourism. Throughout the day, speakers will address themes such as the principles of Universal Design, accessible and inclusive tourism terminology, easy language, web accessibility, digital inclusion and much more. The programme will also look at how to develop inclusive tourism strategies at destination level.
More than a traditional seminar, the event is conceived as a space for exchange and inspiration. Through presentations, case studies and collaborative discussion, participants will be able to discover concrete tools, compare perspectives and reflect on real-world challenges faced by destinations today.
The training is open free of charge to tourism and hospitality professionals, public authorities, destination management organisations, cultural and transport operators, service providers, policy makers, and anyone interested in deepening their understanding of accessibility and Universal Design in tourism.
Participation is free, but places are limited and registration will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Presentations will be delivered in Italian and English, depending on the session.
The event will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, including a lunch break, at Building W, Room A, San Giovanni Campus, Via Weiss 21, Trieste.
