Study Visit in Ravenna (Italy) “PRESERVATION MARINE AREAS AND MARITIME SPATIAL PLANNING”, 18th -19th April 2023

The Study Visit in Ravenna (Italy) was organized by Emilia-Romagna Region, the project Partner no. 5.

The core of the Study visit was on 19th April. During the morning a meeting took
place at the historical building “Casa Matha” (in Italian, “Società degli Uomini della Casa Matha”) in the center of Ravenna (Piazza Andrea Costa, 3).

The first speech of the day agenda was about “History of Fishing in valley related to Casa Matha” by Mr. Giovanni Fanti, Coordinator for scientific projects (Order of Casa Matha).
The second speech focused on “The biological preservation marine areas in Emilia-Romagna: an
example of sustainable management of aquaculture” and was presented by Ms. Angela Maini, the Responsible for the management of maritime state property for fishing and aquaculture in Emilia-
Romagna Region, with the collaboration of Ms. Greta Santagostino Pretina, Communication Assistance role in European projects.
Thirdly, Ms. Luisa Perini - Responsible for the development and management of the sea-coast
informative system, actions to mitigate coastal risks and maritime spatial planning - presented the topic “MSP (Maritime Spatial Planning), the application of the UE legislationdirective in Emilia-
Romagna and Adriatic Sea”.

Mr. Luca Chiodini, Communication Manager of Resistance for Emilia-Romagna, spoke on “The sole
nursery area in the Adriatic: protection proposals for a ‘sanctuary’”. marine environment and coastal areas, and future challenges to be faced in the Region. He’s in charge of Tourism, Sport activities, Agriculture and Agri-Food sector, natural areas and “Delta del Po” park and other tasks.
Finally, the conclusion of the meeting, presented by the Municipality of Podstrana, Lead Partner of
the project, was carried out through the speech from the Prof. Vlatka Bilas on “Sustainable nautical tourism – lessons learned from Croatia”.

In the afternoon, partners of the RESISTANCE project visited Fishing hut (“Capanno da pesca”), traditional site of the fishing heritage and the traditional Fishing lagoon of “Pialassa di Ravenna”. Pialassa della Baiona is a natural area, a lagoon environment of 10 hectares located between the Pine Forest of San Vitale and the coastal village of Marina Romea.
