ECOFOODCYCLE recognised as a good practice by the Veneto Region

02/11/2026

On 17 September 2026, the Veneto Region featured an initiative developed within the Interreg Italy-Croatia project ECOFOODCYCLE as an example of good practice on its regional Venexus platform.

The recognition highlights the value of an integrated approach to food waste prevention, bringing together scientific monitoring, educational activities and the active involvement of families.

The model is built around three interconnected levels:

  • Scientific monitoring: quantitative and qualitative audits in school canteens identify food waste patterns and provide evidence to support improvements in school catering services.
  • Education at school: through the ECOFOODCYCLE Waste Truck and practical learning activities, students explore food waste, sustainable food systems and the importance of responsible consumption. Activities also include educational farm visits and the development of anti-waste recipes.
  • Family involvement: practical workshops led by professional chef Tommaso Pardo help parents and children transfer the knowledge acquired at school into everyday life, focusing on food preservation, meal planning and the creative use of leftovers.

The strength of this approach lies in the connection between these three dimensions: data collected in school canteens informs educational activities, students become active promoters of change, and the knowledge they acquire is brought into their homes, encouraging more sustainable food management habits.

The inclusion of this initiative in the Veneto Region's good practices platform represents an important recognition of ECOFOODCYCLE's contribution to promoting sustainable food systems and demonstrates how project activities can generate value beyond the project itself, offering a model that can inspire other communities and local stakeholders.
