FORTIC Metaverse

The FORTIC Cross-Border Metaverse, one of the key outputs of the FORTIC project, has been developed as an innovative shared digital environment connecting fortification heritage across the Adriatic.
The platform currently connects Fort Bourguignon and Fort Saint Michael in Pula, the Revelin Tower in Korčula, the Regelbau Bunker and Torre San Michele in Cervia, and Vieste Castle.
Visitors can navigate between the different locations through a common virtual hub and points of interest, while dynamic information panels provide access to texts, photographs, videos, documents and other digital content. Selected spaces have also been documented through high-fidelity photogrammetric scans, allowing users to experience interiors in greater detail.
Making fortification heritage more accessible
One of the main objectives of the FORTIC Metaverse is to overcome the physical and geographical distance between fortifications located across the Adriatic. It also offers new possibilities for people who cannot easily travel to or physically access heritage sites, while supporting year-round access to cultural heritage beyond the traditional tourism season.
The platform therefore combines heritage interpretation, accessibility and inclusion, tourism diversification and cross-border cooperation. Digital itineraries and immersive storytelling provide new ways of discovering fortification heritage while encouraging, rather than replacing, physical visits to the sites.
From a project output to a shared digital ecosystem
The FORTIC Cross-Border Metaverse has been conceived not simply as a standalone 3D showcase, but as a digital infrastructure that can continue to grow beyond the project itself.
Its future potential includes the integration of new partners and fortifications, cultural routes and additional digital tools, creating opportunities for heritage management, sustainable tourism, research, accessibility and cooperation between municipalities, universities, cultural institutions and other stakeholders.
By digitally connecting fortifications that are geographically separated but share a common cultural and historical context, the FORTIC Metaverse represents an important step towards a more accessible, connected and innovative approach to Adriatic fortification heritage.
